Storm!

It has been a summer of storms. This one brought furious, frightening winds. At around 4:30 PM, the day as dark as night, Number Three and I made the decision to get everyone to go down cellar--blankets, flashlights and the four little kittens found their way downstairs with us. It didn't last long, but long enough for usually-very-brave, but this time very teary Number Seven. It was scary--the winds were very scary. The worst passed, we emerged and continued with our usual duties when Number Four told me that the windmill structure had fallen!

Husband went to assess the damage when he arrived home as we had to leave for a diocesan picnic, which of course had been moved indoors, and we also lost many limbs and trees in the woods. Number Four took the picture of the approaching storm and it turned out to be a picture of the last minutes of the standing tower. I wonder for how many decades that structure had been up in this spot!

As the picnic wrapped up, I took one minute to slip into church and realized that I had a shaky and thankful heart. Being aware of our powerlessness in face of nature's mighty strength certainly gets us to stop life for a minute and face the eternal.

Thank you, I told Him, thank you.
