My little sister Marta, as of today, St Francis of Assisi feast day, is now the novice Sister Marta at the Abbey of Saint Walburga in the Bavaria. How can words express my joy?
The Abbey's website has the news on its website. I cannot understand the German but I know the middle picture shows the two current novices, both named Marta! We met the other Sister Marta when we were there this summer, a Japanese convert, an accomplished musician and a doctor of Mathematics!
Translation from German:
Clothing of our postulant Martha
The feast of St Francis of Assisi, October 4, was cause for special joy this year: in the early morning, before Lauds, our postulant Marta Braga received the robes of a sister of St Walburga. In her short speech, Mother Francisca emphasized the deep connection between the baptismal gown and the religious habit – as the baptized puts on Christ, so does, in a special way, the monastic (Galatians 3:27). Although the monastic clothing is not done in public at St Walburga, several guests were in attendance, including three sisters from the bishop’s residence, one of whom is in sisterly contact with Sister Marta because of their common Brazilian homeland.
Now for a short time at the Abbey of St Walburga, three sisters with the beautiful name Martha live, which may still lead to some confusion…
I have had Marta so much in my mind, and in my heart!
May God grant her peace and joy for many, many years to come!
She asks for our prayers for this novitiate year that begins, as it is a difficult year, with very little contact with the outside world.
You are in my prayers, dearest little sister!
