Tomorrow we go to Paris, on the Chunnel. Today we went to the Tower of London, which isn't a tower but a fortress from medieval times. There were tons of swords and suits of armor and cannons and such. And of course the crown jewels—huge, huge diamonds on crowns. Pretty cool. I took lots of pictures boys, don’t worry. Not of the jewels though—they didn’t allow that.
Yesterday we went to Shakespeare's birthplace, and I loved it there. Very pretty, I got lots of pictures of flowers from the gardens, and I walked on the actual stone floor that Shakespeare and his wife walked on when they were courting... it was really cool, I liked it there a lot. After that we were supposed to go to Oxford, but our bus broke down by the side of the road for 2 hours. Ha ha. Luckily no one really complained and it wasn't too hot.
I'm in London now, and I said, and I must say I don’t like it as much as the other places. Oh, and 2 days ago we were in Wales, which is GORGEOUS, and we stayed in a tiny little cute town and hiked up this huge hill to the ruins of a medieval castle. Now that was cool. It was amazing there.
Well, tomorrow is Paris and the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre and Notre Dame, so that'll be cool. So far Dublin has been my favorite place. That was the first place we went and it was amazing. Reminded me so much of Brasil, with how it was laid out and the atmosphere and the smells and the shops... I loved Dublin. Wales was nice too, very pretty, and so was Stratford. London I don’t like though... don't like the feel of it.
Oh, today we went to St. Paul's Cathedral. It's an Anglican cathedral, but still absolutely BEAUTIFUL. It has the second biggest dome in the world, and many of its windows aren't stained so it's very, very bright, and has amazing mosaics everywhere. We went to the crypt underground and there were tons of tombs. Kind of hard to avoid stepping on them.
I've taken about 350 pictures so far, so I'm doing very well with that. Yea, this is a really discombobulated email, I'm sorry. From Dublin to Wales we took 3 1/2 hour ferry ride. I expected it to be rather small, but the boat was pretty much a cruise ship. Yea, I liked it. Ok, this is so random, let me explain: we flew into Dublin, and spent that day and the next there. Then we took a ferry to Wales and spent a day there. Then we went to Stratford and came here, and then today we were here in London. Tomorrow and the next day are Paris, and then we spend a day at Monet's gardens and house, and then Munich and then Innsbruck and then Venice and then Assisi and then Rome and then Pompeii. Whew.
I've been keeping up with the World Cup, so that's nice. Every TV has it on--walking around I can just peek into any pub and see the score.
Here we aren't staying in a hotel, but in a college dorm building. It's a new college and so they rent it out as a hotel during the summer, ha ha. It's nice, expect for the fact that there's no TV in the rooms to watch World Cup, because that has been what we've been doing at night. ;) The hotels have been mainly these tiny little places, with barely working bathrooms and lots of native charm. They're really more like Bed and Breakfasts than hotels.
We're all rather sleep deprived, getting up close to 6 every morning, but we have lots of time on buses and trains to sleep, so we're all pulling through.
I'm really having a great time and am really grateful for this experience... everything is amazing. Oh, and the food too--we've been having such amazing dinners. Tonight is fish and chips. =) Ok, my time here is up, don't want to have to pay £2 because I stay on longer than an hour.
If all of you prayed for a safe trip for all of us here I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
Love,
Claudia
