Two upcoming books

I just posted this on PopeStNickV, the yahoo group that posts title suggestions you can request from your library! If you are in my library system, please duplicate the requests!
These will be published in March an April. They look like awesome titles that may catch the attention of any passers-by!
(I have decided if I can just post the Amazon link I have more chance to post there more often. I hope everyone is OK with this, and as always I welcome any emails or success stories!)

Two books requested!

My Brother the Pope by Georg Ratzinger
and
The True Icon: From the Shroud of Turin to the Veil of Manoppello by Paul Badde

Just posted on PopeStNickV: If you go to Advanced Search on Amazon, and look for Ignatius Press as publisher, and by date of publication, you will come across both the recent
and pre-publication titles of that excellent publisher.

Remember, libraries have a budget  for patrons' suggestions, and if their budget year follows the calendar year, January and early spring are good requesting months!

Success!

On my last visit to the library, I was delighted to find, with my holds, two of the three books I had requested for purchase! I will return one of them so other patrons can enjoy it, and check it out later. Sigrid Undset's Ida Elizabeth and Michael O'Brien's new book, A Father's Tale. (Sigrid Undset won the 1928 Nobel and found/came into the Church while researching roots of Norwegian Christianity for her masterwork Kristin Lavransdatter, and Michael O'Brien is a Catholic bestseller from Canada).

I will return one of them so other patrons can enjoy it, and check it out later. If you are part of the S. Falls library system, put them on hold! The more holds, the more likely they will be to purchase our suggestions in the future!  To everyone who has duplicated the purchase requests, thanks! There is strength in numbers. (Anytime you request a good book for the library to purchase, let me know and I will duplicate the request as well!)

Three books requested

I am just done filling out the library request forms for these three new publications by Ignatius Press.  The first one, Ida Elizabeth, is by Nobel Prize winner Sigrid Undset. The second one, The Father's Tale, is by Michael O'Brien, the author of the bestseller Father Elijah and Strangers and Sojourners, two books I loved. The third is a children's title on Saint Clothilde, first Queen of France, and will tie in with Number Six' study of medieval historical characters this semester at coop.

Update Friday: when I filled out the form online with our library system, I added another one of his upcoming books, on a subject I discussed in History class recently. Again, I can't wait to read it!

I have three pre-publication suggestions, one today and two more forthcoming, for Catholic reference books. As my library system has limited purchase suggestions to books published in the past 6 months, I have learned to scout pre-publication titles at Amazon.

Check to see if this title is already in your library's catalog. If it is, put ahold on it and check it out. If not, fill out a patron request form right away. This can usually be done online at your library's website. The Adventures of Lupio by Jean-Francois Kieffer

In honor of Saint Francis of Assissi, here is the book posted today on the PopeStNickV list:

The Adventures of Lupio by Jean-Francois Kieffer
44 pages, Ignatius Press (November 30, 2010)
ISBN-10: 1586175262

From the publisher:

In the days of knights and castles lived an adventurous young troubadour named Lupio.
Orphaned and on his own in 13th century Italy, plucky Loupio meets Brother Francis of Assisi and his friend Brother Wolf, and so begins a new life of joyfully trying to do good, while still getting by in a dangerous world.
The youthful and colorful comic- book style presents to young readers the exciting challenges of growing up in the Middle Ages, which often look very like the challenges of growing up in any age. Like the Tin Tin and Asterixcomics, this series, never before available in English, is sure to entertain young readers. But more than that, the seeds of faith, hope and charity taking root in Loupio, might grow in their hearts too.

Editorial Reviews
Product Description
It is 1940, and American Tom McCord, a 23-year-old aspiring doctoral candidate, is in England researching the historical evidence for the legendary King Arthur. There he meets perky and intuitive Laura Hartman, a fellow American staying with her aunt in Oxford, and the two of them team up for an even more ambitious and dangerous quest.
Aided by the Inklings-that illustrious circle of scholars and writers made famous by its two most prolific members, C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien-Tom and Laura begin to suspect that the fabled Spear of Destiny, the lance that pierced the side of Christ on the cross, is hidden somewhere in England.

Tom discovers that Laura has been having mysterious dreams, which seem to be related to the subject of his research, and, though doubtful of her visions, he hires her as an assistant. Heeding the insights and advice of the Inklings, while becoming aware of being shadowed by powerful and secretive foes who would claim the spear as their own, Tom and Laura end up on a thrilling treasure hunt that crisscrosses the English countryside and leads beyond a search for the elusive relics of Camelot into the depths of the human heart and soul.

Weaving his fast-paced narrative with actual quotes from the works of the Inklings, author David Downing offers a vivid portrait of Oxford and draws a welcome glimpse into the personalities and ideas of Lewis and Tolkien, while never losing sight of his action-packed adventure story and its two very appealing main characters.

Saints and Their Stories

Saints and Their Stories by Maria Loretta Giraldo, illustrated by Nicoletta Bertelle. Hardcover, 2010 Pauline Books & Media, ISBN: 0-8198-7134-6, 168 pages.

This is the translation of a lovely Italian book for children. I love the uniqueness of the style and illustrations. The stories are filled with anecdotes and details of the saints' lives not found in other books about saints for children. Truly a gem-- we will read it aloud during Religion this Fall. Do visit the Publisher's site as they have a neat flip-the-pages "look-inside" feature.

From the Publisher:
This sumptuously illustrated collection of biographies introduces young readers, ages 7–10, to eighteen popular saints. Historical and biographical information is enriched by cultural and artistic traditions,—and even a few legends. Saints and Their Stories includes:
Saint Ann
Saint Joseph

Saint Paul
Saint Cecilia
Saint Helen the Empress
Saint Lucy

The Kitchen Madonna

Our old hardcover copy doesn't look nearly as attractive as the new one, just reprinted by Bethlehem Books!

As with all Rumer Godden books, the writing is delightful. This is an old all-time read-aloud favorite in our house!

I just posted it on the Pope Saint Nicholas V Yahoo group.
