Visiting Rio, final
We Left Rio after visiting the place where Rio was founded by the Portuguese Estácio de Sá, on January 20th, 1565. The two forts, Barra and São João, are located across each other on the entrance of the enormous Guanabara Bay. De Sá thought the bay entrance was a river, and named the city Saint Sebastian of the River of January (Rio de Janeiro) since it was St. Sebastian Feast day. Needless to say, Sebastian is by far the most common name for boys in Rio! The last shot shows the view from the road as we climbed the Serra on the way back here.
