A film worth watching: Children of Heaven

You are familiar with the scenario: you sit with your family, popcorn and the Sunday soda you will not have on a Lenten weekday, a DVD from Netflix. Chances are it's an OK show, after all you did spend the time trying to find suitable viewing. (Sometimes it isn't, and you turn it off.)

Once in a very rare blue moon, like last night, the film is beautiful, it takes your breath away, it transposes you magically to another world and the beauty of it all is a most rewarding experience. Children of Heaven is such a film: a film with just a few minutes of beautiful surroundings--and more than 90 minutes of dirty streets and poverty. And yet, you are left with a feeling of having been in the most beautiful place, in the company of most honorable and charitable people, children of heaven.

I know this is a film our children will not forget. This film is capable of teaching them about how most of the world lives, but most importantly it shows the essential Christian message, the one Blessed Teresa of Calcutta spoke of repeatedly: give always, until it hurts--then you will find happiness.

Children Of Heaven Triumphant prizewinner at many prestigious film festivals, this uplifting, crowd-pleasing story of family and love was also nominated for an Academy Award(R) as Best Foreign Language Film. When Ali loses his sister Zahra's school shoes, this young pair dream up a plan to stay out of trouble: they'll share his shoes and keep it a secret from their parents! But if they're going to successfully cover their tracks, Ali and Zahra must carefully watch their step on what rapidly turns into a funny and heartwarming adventure! A magical motion picture acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, CHILDREN OF HEAVEN is a charming treat you'll love too.

Thanks for the review! I already had it in my Netflix queue - maybe I'll have to bump it up on the list. :)

I saw this movie a long time ago and really enjoyed it. I think, in fact, that I have it on our list again.

Oh wonderful! I'm supposed to be getting this from Netflix today. Have you seen The Color of Paradise?
