I read Farmer Boy when I was part of a different world. I loved it then, and I remember vividly the half dollar, the blotch on the parlor's wallpaper that Eliza Jane patched without ever telling Almanzo, and of course the colts.
But listening to it now, as we drive everyday to and from Drama Camp, is beyond delightful: not only I get Laura Ingalls' wonderful words, I get farming advice! When to pick the beans, how to braid the onions, the dangers of frost on the new growing corn. Those were the parts I probably skipped then: now I want to replay them. Exhilarating!
