Number One goes to the Museum

When he was but a very few weeks old, Husband and I took Number One to a Museum. Not any art museum: we took him to the Kimbell, the best art museum in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We were in graduate school and money was short, so outings such as these were carefully planned and very special. I have always been proud of the fact that his great first big outing has been to an art museum, the first one besides going to church, or the store.

Twenty year later, Number One is choosing his first overseas outings: yesterday he visited the Wallace Collection, one of the largest private collections in the world. He has been blogging his adventures in London as a ND semester-abroad-student and I am delighted to share this post here. Visit his blog and leave a comment!

About a ten minute walk from our flat, the benefactor's family house is now the museum with 24 galleries. I particularly enjoyed Canaletto's Venetian landscapes which are very similar to Francesco Guardi's I posted about earlier. Other highlights included Frans Hals' Laughing Cavalier, many intricate miniatures, one particular small statue, "Male Acrobat", was particularly pleasing. I couldn't take any pictures inside, but I do have a picture of the outside I will be posting once I download pictures, but for now it's off to bed for me!

I didn't find one of Canaletto's Venetian Landscapes from the Wallace Collection, but here is a very nice one from the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.

Needless to say, I am proud that he he is using free time to further his education and make great use of being abroad.
