The Bayeux Tapestries, animated

Two years ago, still in this blog's pre-history, we took the kids to the Imax production entitled "The Vikings", and I sent an email to friends saying:

Our family watched the new Vikings Imax movie today-some very interesting parts
and of course a good dose of revisionist history-watch it with a grain of
salt. I recommend it because it tells fascinating historical vignettes, including the
account of how in 1953 an archaeologist couple from Norway carefully
retraced Leif the Lucky's travels and finally found the ruins of this
Vineland settlement.

The film got us to talk about the Norman Conquest and refresh our history.
The movie showed and talked about the amazing Bayeux tapestries, embroidered
1000 years ago depicting the history of the Norman Conquest, the Battle of
Hastings, and everything that happened from Saint King Edward the Confessor
until William the Conqueror was crowned king of England. This morning I
googled around and found a most interesting website from Reading, UK with an
interactive set of the tapestries, scene by scene, with captions.
Fascinating!

Today my googlereader brought me an incredible YouTube clip: the Bayeux Tapestries animated! Take a minute to enjoy this!
