Reading The Brothers Karamazov

I am progressing slowly, but surely. I bought my own copy from Dover so Husband doesn't need to worry about the state of his beloved copy from college. Mine is the original Garnett translation.
Here's a quote from Chapter 8, Book 1. Father Zozima is responding to the question of how does one return to the faith like that of a child.
"By the experience of active love. Strive to love your neighbour actively and indefatigably. In as far as you advance in love you will grow surer of the reality of God and of the immortality of your soul. If you attain to perfect self-forgetfulness in the love of your neighbour, then you will believe without doubt, and no doubt can possibly enter your soul. This has been tried. This is certain."
How can one not love Dostoyevski?
I am printing a list of characters from Wikipedia. Every time in the past I attempted to read this book, the characters' names lost me. I believe I will need to refer to the list until the last chapter. What is it about Russian names?

Ana,
I have had a similar problem when I have tried to read Brothers. I am going to try again. This would probably make excellent reading for Lent for me. And I am going to print out your list of names...Excellent idea!
