Studies in chiaroscuro

My Co-op high school students outdid themselves as usual.



While watching one of the Christian Art Heritage Program DVDs, we learned about the little Dutch genre painters and paintings, and talked about chiaroscuro effects: light reflected in objects against a dark background.

I chose a project from Masterpiece Art Instruction for them to do. Enjoy!










Update: the examples above were taken from the high school students, I am also including below some examples from the middle school students' Matisse cutout project from a week ago.
