As I washed a mighty head of lettuce and looked at the freshly picked peas... I realize this is the very first I bring peas into the house. I have been gardening since Number Two was one year old, back in Kansas... but peas have always been a small crop-- just enough for outside eating. Not this time. They are the tallest thing in the garden, and covered in the little white blossoms.
I can see my garden in the dawn light from where I blog, and I hear the many birds. My heart is full of gratitude. God Bless America.
