Picture book of the week

Planting the Trees of Kenya, the story of Wangari Maathai, by Claire Nivola; Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2008.

As reported in the Love2Learn blog, this book, besides telling of a wonderful true story, has some surprising Catholic elements from our "neighborhood"... as the author attended Benedictine College in Kansas. Wangari Maathai went on to found the Green Belt Movement and won the 2004 Peace Nobel Prize.

Read the lovely review at Love2Learn blog here.

I'm glad you liked it! Just so you know, though, the author didn't attend Benedictine, the subject of the story did.

Hope all is well with you!

You are right, of course! I was treating the book as if it were autobiographical and it isn't. Thanks!
