The 14 Bis
The Imperial City is also the birthplace of Alberto Santos Dumont, known outside of the Wright-brothers native land as the Father of Aviation. Driving through town I had my father stop in the middle of traffic and was able to take a photo of Santos-Dumont's famous aeroplane the 14 Bis. This was the first airplane ever to take off and fly on its own--around the Eiffell Tower in Paris.

this is, I would gather, a sculpture commemorating 14 Bis as that fragile original plane has long since disappeared.
Glad to hear from you, oh man full of crucial information about my terra-mae.
