The devotion to Saint George is huge in my native Brazil, and there is a Mass at Dawn said by the Bishop ("Missa da Alvorada") in Rio in his honor, where people dress up and day-long processions includes horse-pulled carriages etc. My dear Brazilian friend Maria Luiza added several images of Saint George on Facebook and then I found the one of the Pope as he received gifts of food and music from the Swiss Guard on the festive occasion, as it is the Saint of his baptismal name! Here is her text:
("Saint George was, according to tradition, a Roman soldier and priest in the army of the emperor Diocletian, venerated as a Christian martyr.'s One of the most venerated saints in the Catholic (both Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church as well as in the Anglican Communion .) is also worshiped in different religions african-Brazilian religions. It is the patron saint in various parts of the world: England, Portugal, Georgia, Catalonia, Lithuania, Serbia, Montenegro, Ethiopia, the cities of London, Moscow and Genoa, unofficially, city of Rio de Janeiro and São Jorge dos Ilheus.")
