Ash Wednesday 2014
I was in the hospital with him when he took his last breath. He died peacefully, after a short period of irregular breathing, and there was serenity on his face for the first time since I arrived. I said Hail Marys, one after the other in the hallway, as the medical team attempted to revive him for about 20 minutes. I knew all along the Blessed Mother was with him, what with all of the Hail Marys he said in his lifetime. It was the death of a man of faith, with Hope, not despair. It was painful as death is, and yet full of relief and the certainty of heaven.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, full of grace, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death amen.
