Both Margaret and Karen posted nice husband-8-things-memes... and they made me want to post one too! The picture was taken about 15 yrs ago.
1. Husband was born at the Urbana-Champaign university hospital. His dad was a student, and had gone on an Antarctica research expedition! He grew up in three different Boston area homes. One of them was an old mansion in Beverly.
2. He is good at every game he plays. He never, never lets the kids win when he plays against them, no matter how old. He consistently demolishes them at every game. When they finally are old enough to win once in a while, it's a celebration. On the other hand, the kids can be assured they will beat me in any game they play.
3. He was not raised Catholic albeit the name is indeed Irish. That was because his father was not raised Catholic either, since his own father had married a non-Catholic who would not agree to marry in the Church or raise the children Catholic. Husband's grandfather, however, went to Holy Mass until the end of his life.
4. Husband went to a Great Books college program in MD and NM. It is amazing how much this fact continues to define him.
5. He had more than 80 credits to his name when I met him in graduate school. I mean 80 credit hours he didn't even need! Unfortunately, he lost his perfect 4.0 GPA the semester we met in graduate school. Oh well… He still is a voracious reader: lately he was known for reading three Dickens novels in a row, while expression all the way that he is is actually not a fan of Dickens at all. Go figure! My reading habits are so diametrically opposed! I am simply unable to read something that does not completely grab me, one way or the other.
6. Husband loves food. Homemade food, ethnic food, or any good food. The spicier the better! There are very few things he does not like. He does not like strawberry rhubarb pie, he prefers orange-rhubarb. He doesn't like creamed avocados with sugar and lime—a Brazilian traditional dessert. And he doesn't like eggplant—or at least he thinks he doesn't like it.
7. He loves music. Good music. No country, rap, or commercial music makes it into this house. He has developed a love for both Brazilian music and Portuguese fado and I love him for that. He has exposed our children to an amazing array and range of excellent music through the years. He also loves poetry and once in while reads some out loud for us.
8. Most amazing of all, Husband is arguably the only Ecology professor in the world who has seven children!
