In this latest issue of Crisis Magazine:
"Rowling's stories have many imaginative strengths, and even some moral ones as well, yet the overall narrative presupposes a metaphysic that is at odds with a Judeo-Christian cosmology. Pace its Catholic apologists, and mindful of the salutary ingredients that are there, the witch's brew as a whole does not taste of a recognizably Catholic version of the Good.Aah... it is always so sweet when someone else says it... and oh, so well. The quote is by Michael P. Foley of Baylor University, author of Why do Catholic Eat Fish on Fridays.

Hi Ana,
I followed the link but couldn't find the article anywhere, even after searching ... do you have any other info on it? Sounds interesting! We're in the middle of "discernment" here on all things HP. We, too, steered a wide berth around all the books and movies, until now... we're letting our teen girls see the movies but intend to have discussions about sorting out the worldview, themes, symbolism, etc. I've read both sides of the argument and still am not quite sure. Could it be a veneer of Christianity over a New Age / Wiccan structure? I don't know but I intend to find out for myself! :-)
Sorry--the article is not available online. However the article is not about Harry Potter but about Catholic cinema-- this quote is the only mention about HP in the article.
