Young Picassos

Yesterday at Co-op we studied Picassos. I told to my students that one has to touch on Picasso when studying art, and the Christian Heritage Art program helped immensely!

After they watched the DVD they drew quick sketches from National Geographic magazines nature photography, and then cut the sketches into four pieces.

Their final oil pastel compositions brought those pieces together in a "Picasso style". We had, of course, some beautiful results. Unfortunately, I just have Jr. High photos.

Addendum: we talked in class about how beautiful some earlier Picasso work was. I did a little digging and found some *very* early and beautiful Picasso work, certainly not very well known! Enjoy!

First Communion. 1895/96. Oil on canvas. Museo Picasso, Barcelona, Spain.

Portrait of the Artist's Mother. 1896. Pastel on Paper. Museo Picasso, Barcelona, Spain.

Science and Charity. 1897. Oil on canvas. Museo Picasso, Barcelona, Spain.

Thank you for this post. I have never seen these paintings by Picasso before. They are beautiful.
