Our Trip 7: Ice Cream Before Dinner
Once we got in the lower peninsula, we realized it would be several hours before we hit the campground so Dad treated us all to ice cream. The owner of the ice cream store finally explained to us about the UP (Upper Peninsula) traditions: all of the signs we saw for "Pasties" had to do with the mining: the workers take them for lunch, they are filled breads with potatoes, onions, meat, venison and even rutabagas. Yum.
