I love getting back to teaching art at the small homeschool coop at the parish! I used Number Two's lovely custom bouquet as a still life when we finished work on a color wheel.

Pop Art
We continue doing Sister Wendy American Art book at coop, and today we talked about Andy Warhol. I told them they should just know who he is, no need to admire him. Sister's description in the book about his subjects--and their utter emptiness--was very good. I had them do a simple "pop art" stuff, and they had fun with it.

Coop Choir: Les Choristes
The girls' choir Voces sang beautiful yesterday and I recorded this beautiful one--albeit very badly--as it is a favorite in our house. The film was loved by my dear Mother and sister Nina and after we saw, it we recommended it for coo-op music!

Co-op Art
The students did this cityscape at coop. The model was the one on top left. A view of Portofino, Italy. We used oil pastels.

Coop Art
Yesterday at coop the students had to choose an animal photo from National Geographic magazines and do their own creation from it using oil pastels on colored paper. I got some fantastic results! I will post more later as some of them had to take them home to finish. (Number Six' was the turtle on the blue background).

Escaping winter
We are in the midst of the coldest spell of the winter.Yesterday all schools were closed due to forty below windchill. Today at coop I took my kids away from the horrors of frozen air and had them think of nicer, warmer scenarios: specifically, of my native Rio! I have recently come across a beautiful photograph of Rio's amazing geography and have it as my Facebook cover image.

Our 2012 Co-op T-Shirt!
Do your kids love wearing their homeschool T-Shirts? Mine do! Jannell and I are happy to announce our Coop T-Shirt 2012! This year we invited the tree Co-op seniors to contribute ideas for the 2012 T-Shirt design. They chose to send us quotes and we worked with them to form a design that we think is just wonderful! Notice how the fonts in the front tie in with their chosen quotes on the back. T-Shirts this year are a summery lime-green, and I can't wait to see the kids wearing them!

Coop: Lenten Art Project
The students worked on a study of Fra Angelico's The Crucified Christ, I posted the middle school students and results on top. Medium was sharpies and watercolor pencils. The high school students, photos and results below, had the option of foregoing the sharpies and many chose that.
Needless to say, I am impressed and proud of their efforts. Without exception, the homeschool coop students put effort into their artwork and appreciated the value of contemplating the suffering Lord during his holy, penitential season.
