Exsultet! ...This is the night when Christ broke the prison-bars of death and rose victorious from the underworld. ...O truly Blessed Night, when things of heaven are wed to those of earth and divine to the human! ...
What difference the new translation made! Easter Vigil's text was so much more beautiful and close to the original Latin!
What used to be:
“Rejoice, heavenly powers! Sing choirs of angels! Exult all creation around God’s throne! Jesus Christ, our King, is risen!”
...is now, thanks be to God,
“Exult, let them exult, the hosts of heaven, exult, let Angel ministers of God exult, let the trumpet of salvation sound aloud our mighty King’s triumph!”
(It is actually what the Latin says:
"Exsúltet iam angélica turba cælórum:
exsúltent divína mystéria:
et pro tanti Regis victória tuba ínsonet salutáris"... )
Happy Easter to all!
I caught the first rays of the Easter day sun on our homemade bread, blessed by Fr. after the Vigil last night!
